What are a bolt and its types

The bolt is an elongated metal part that serves to hold structures, both small and large. It works as an assembly between different surfaces, keeping them together with a nut.

They fulfill a function similar to that of a nut or high tensile fasteners. They are grouped according to the shape of the head, threads, the fastening system, the type of material, the size.

According to the fastening system: It is distinguished as permanent or removable.

By the type of material: Most of the time, a193 b7 bolts are made of steel, since they must support large weights. Bolts are commonly used in automobile manufacturing, so the material must always be strong. For nuts, they are of less resistant material than steel.

By the shape of the head: It is often hexagonal (it is screwed onto the head of the ss threaded rod, and bolts have to be screwed along its entire length). It can also be rounded, square, or asymmetric.

By the threads: They can be metric; in inches, of the union, through (a193 b16 are the bolts that cross pieces without threads; they are used in cast iron parts); self-tapping bolts (placed in soft materials).

By size: There are different dimensions, from 6 mm onwards.

What is the difference between Iron bolts and Steel bolts?

The difference between these two materials is a metal alloy that is used in the smelting of one or other. Based on this, the ss 304 bolt have varying degrees of hardness, which are used in different applications of construction, automotive, engineering, production, etc.

The 316 stainless steel bolts, also known as sweet, is the one with the least resistance, having hardness in SAE grade 2, or ASTM grade 307. This bolt is recognized by looking at its head, which has two lines, or sometimes not. It has no mark indicating the bolt hardness levels.

The stainless steel stud bolts have different percentages of carbon in its mixture, component that gives more or less resistance and hardness to the material.

These bolts are recognized by having markings on their head that identify the degree of hardness and are used in industrial, construction, automotive, etc. applications where high tensile or cut resistance Stainless Steel Fasteners are required.

What is the difference between millimeter bolts and inch bolts?

Due to a large number of applications and bolt manufacturers that exist, two different units of measurement are used for the manufacture and use of bolts, nuts, and other fastening systems. The grade 10.9 bolt corresponds to European and Asian regulations, and their most common application is in the automotive area, although they can be used in many different industries.

These grade 8.8 bolts , as the name implies, are measured in millimeters as the base unit, having different diameters and lengths. The quality standard most applied to this type of fixing with the hardness level 8.8 being the most common.

The a193 b8 bolts in inches corresponds to the English and American regulations and are used in all types of industry, construction, automotive, food, etc.
